Why You Should Invest in Photography

The photography business is a highly concentrated industry, and as a consumer, can be very overwhelming when choosing the perfect one. There are a handful of photographers in your local city, town, or province who are all hoping you invest in their services. But what sets them apart from the rest?

Why should I pay someone to take pictures when I have the latest mobile phone? I don’t need a photographer when Uncle Bill can take them for me!”

I’ve heard these questions and statements before and they have a point: why would you pay someone to do something YOU can do yourself? Sure, it can be done but it’s not always the best solution. Photographers are artists. They see something you might not and are able to photograph you in a way that is usually difficult to do yourself. I say usually because I have seen some incredible self-portraits. They creatively tell your story in a way only a photographer, or artist, can. We take every measure in our practice to ensure you receive the best quality, best experience, and ease of mind.

All photographers have a different way of running their business and how they interact with you prior to your scheduled shoot. As your Alberta Couples, Wedding and Family Photographer, during our initial conversations, I work with you to help create an experience and not just take photos. Each client of mine is unique in their own way and their needs cannot entirely fit into a mold. I help guide you with clothing advise, locations, and get to know you first and foremost! Hence why it is so important to fill out the questionnaire I provide and for larger sessions like weddings, we chat over a coffee in person.

When searching for your next photographer, it might seem overwhelming at first - a daunting task - do your research and find a photographer that fits your needs and requests.

Fun engaged Alberta couple playfully embrace in the Alberta Rocky Mountains

My husband and I recently found ourselves in front of the camera - something we haven’t done since our wedding in 2020. Could I have taken these images myself? Maybe. But investing in a photographer allowed my mind to rest, fully be myself in that moment with my husband and trusted our photographer’s vision. We played, we laughed, we didn’t think about anything except that moment. We received multiple images that I am forever grateful for and that could have only been captured though someone else’s eyes. Our favourite photos are printed on our wall currently, and whenever I look at them, I remember that moment. It’s something truly special that can only be done in someone else’s eyes.

Moments in time only last for so long.

A child walks for the first time, a family pet who has never been in family photos, newly engaged, celebrating a milestone - all these moments shape your life and deserve to have some sort of documentation to it. My best advice? Reach out to photographers in your area! Find someone who you feel connected to and invest in their creative eye - you won’t regret it!
