My Top Photo-Spots in Calgary and the Surrounding Area
Looking for the perfect spot for your engagement session or family photos? I’ve got you covered. I’ve complied a small list of my top recommendations for photo spots in Calgary Alberta and the surrounding area.
Inner-city locations:
Stephen Ave (8th Street)
Talk about a VIBE. Walking through Stephen Avenue, or 8th street, downtown Calgary holds incredible and iconic architecture and art. This is the perfect place to take pictures for your inner-city engagement session or downtown couples photoshoot. With so many different businesses and pubs - you are sure to make a unique experience out of your photoshoot.
Bowness River
Right off of Memorial Drive and close to some incredible small local Calgary businesses (read coffee shops and really good eats), Bowness is home to amazing places along the Bow River. There are a couple of hidden spots I like to go, but overall Bowness offers some really cute natural and city backgrounds. Let’s grab a coffee and go on a walk - this is a great location for a laidback romantic couple.
Fish Creek Park
A strong recommendation and one I personally love; Fish Creek Park. This area is absolutely breathtaking and such an incredible piece of land south Calgary Alberta has to offer. There are many different entrance points, all showcasing slightly different terrains. If you are looking for grassy fields and shady tree coverage this is an incredible spot to keep in mind.
Inglewood
Similar to Stephen Avenue, Inglewood is such an incredible inner-city Calgary location that I just can’t help but love. This is the perfect place to get your couples or engagement photos done if you really want to highlight your authentic selves. Surrounded by amazing small businesses, cafes, restaurants and parks - I absolutely love this area of the city. Into records? Why not pop into Recordland and take a quick 10-minute quirky photoshoot. Love all things plants? Hop on over to Plant Shop and romance your way through the tropical section.
Nose Hill Park
Another strong contender - Nose Hill Park is located in north-west Calgary and offers wide fielded areas with an amazing view of the city landscape. I personally love this one for larger family sessions as there is so much landscape to explore. A bonus for this location is it’s dog-friendly so bringing your fur baby is no issue whatsoever!
Surrounding Areas
High River
Okay this one I also can’t help but love because A) it is the cutest little town just 20 minutes south of Calgary, but B) there are so many hidden gems of photo locations that you can utilize for your shoot. I really like going to the river in the summertime and letting your little ones explore the bugs, rocks and greenery for a really authentic memory.
Kananaskis
Hidden amoung the Alberta Rocky Mountains, Kananaskis has some really incredible trails and pathways, and even hikes for the most adventurous! I love offering parts of Kananaskis for my adventurous wedding couples for their engagement photos. Often the drive up to the meeting location brings in so much excitement, and the backdrop is otherworldly. PS if you want to take photos on top of a mountain, I am very much your gal.
Quarry Lake Park
Such an amazing location in Canmore Alberta. Quarry Lake is a small little community lake that is surrounded by the most amazing Rocky Mountains. Directly next to it is an off-leash dog park which makes for such a fun family-friendly photo location!
High Noon Hills
Located outside of Turner Valley within Kananaskis, High Noon Hills is the perfect outdoor space for those that love grassy fields and aspen trees. There is a cute little easy trail that you can follow along for a 4.5km loop, which makes for the perfect escape for the adventurous souls. Because this is located in Kananaskis, you will need a parking pass!
