From Engagement to ‘I Do’: Documenting Your Love Story Through Photography

One of the most EXCITING times in your life is getting engaged, committing yourselves to each other, and then spending the rest of your days with your bff through marriage. The build up of wedding planning, the details, the celebrations - it’s all apart of the journey that makes the whole process so worthwhile. The moments are also so fleeting and pass by so quickly. So, how can we remember them all?

Documenting this stage in your life through photos is the best way to preserve the feelings, memories and moments you share with your partner and loved ones! Which moments are worth documenting?

The Proposal

Whether it’s a complete surprise, or the hints have been dropped over the course of several SEVERAL months, the proposal is a once in a lifetime moment between you and your special person. I LOVE the idea of capturing your proposal to remember the anticipation and feelings of it all. From the reaction to the joy of the moment - I think these photos are so special to have. Whether you set up your phone to take a video of it all (and screenshot the best moments from the video), or hiring a professional photographer to secretly capture the moments for you, these are just the beginning of your love story.

The Engagement Party

Not often documented by professionals (though I think this would be such a fun add-on to any wedding package!), your engagement party is full of so much love for you both as a couple. In your natural environment surrounded by all your favourite people, capturing these moments for your memories is an amazing way to add another page in your story. Bonus: including a photo booth with props would be an amazing way to celebrate your engagement together!

Engagement Photos

One of my favourite parts of working with my couples prior to their wedding day is capturing their relationship for their engagement photos. It’s this session (and leading up to it) where I really get to know you both, and you me! We get to see how comfortable you are in front of my lens, any particular feelings, places, or memories you want to preserve, and capture beautiful moments to share throughout your engagement. There are so many beautiful spots in Calgary and the surrounding area that I would recommend! Through our many chats, we can determine the overall vibe for your shoot.

The Night Before

This is another moment not often documented by professionals, but one that I would LOVE to capture. Your favourite people all enjoying a relaxed environment; perhaps around a firepit with smores and hot dogs, perhaps in your parent’s backyard where yard games are being held, or perhaps it’s a full-on pool party at the hotel near your reception space. This is such a beautiful moment for you both filled with so many raw emotions and would capture beautifully for your heirloom wedding album. P.S. your guests will get to know me better this way too and will feel like old friends for your wedding day!

The engagement portion of your lovestory goes by so quickly! Whether you choose to capture it all (or even just the engagement shoot with your wedding photographer) or not, is always always your choice, just be sure to fully embrace it all before your big day!
